Why transporting IKEA furniture is a *ITCH!
First it comes in a million pieces! Departing from the staged prototypes you see in the catalog or while walking through the store. Then deciding which combinations, measurements, color, and layout suit you.
You grapple with lugging it on the cart across the strategically laid out store designed to ensure you walk through it’s entirety hoping you succumb to buying more than you planned. Then there’s the ever fresh smell of pastries, they remind you of walking through a bakery in Oslo. You get in line, after buying more than you need, pay….and then reality hits you once you’re outside the building…..how will it all fit into your mini cooper! It never fits, rarely does, and in the event it does there’s always the need to keep a window or all windows open to accommodate the extra inches. Welcome to IKEA!
Your friends show up to help, but they’re more preoccupied with eyeballing the yuppies finding their way through window shopping with no intent to buy much if anything. Yes they assist but not after making the rounds and maybe hitting on a person….or two. Again, welcome to IKEA.. an unlikely pickup location.
You get the furniture home, and the process repeats itself in revers. This time around you’re going up a flight of stairs. There are no carts or wide pathways that will accommodate the length of your yet to be assembled billy book case. Takes 4 hours to put together only to realize you left out 3 bolts. It stands anyways so you mount it and admire your work. In a nutshell you’ve spent an entire day getting your $200 billy bookcase in place…a few dings on your car, incomplete assembly, and now you need a shower before deciding which books will make it onto the book case.
Buying IKEA furniture is fun…..getting it home and ready for use….not so much! Perhaps you should’ve check in with phlatbed for some help.
Just a thought….
